What is Battle of the Books?

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for grades 4, 5 and 6. Students will read award books, participate in teams, and collaborate on comprehension questions. Students will form groups of four (with a fifth as an alternate) in Feb/March. 

Team Requirement

Each team must read the 12 Sasquatch  nominees for this year. Each team needs to read all the books. That does not mean that everyone has to read all the books. You can divide up the list among team members. The books you are assigned must be read by you. Your team will be depending on you!!!! You will probably have to re-read or review the books towards the end of the year.

3rd Grade - Have a smaller reading list of past BOTB titles, to get ready for the 4-6 grade competition.  

The Battle Begins in May…

Round 1 - Classroom Competitions : Teams within classrooms will compete. At the end of this round, there will be one winning team representing each class at the next round.

Round 2 - Grade Levels: Winning teams within grade levels will compete by grade level. At the end of this round there will be one team for each grade level.

Round 3 –Final School competition with winning 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teams. At the end of this round, there will be one winning team. This team will represent Fairwood at the District Final.

Round 4 – Winning teams from participating schools will take part in the District Final to be held in May of each year.
