2018-19 Calendar of Events

  • Summer Reading 2018: click HERE for more information on different events in our area and also the PTSA/Fairwood School library Tower of Books Challenge! Deadline for turning in forms is Friday, September 14th.
  • Oct 5th: Tower of Books social, 8:25am in the library (for all students who completed the Tower of Books Challenge)
  • Sept 18 - Nov 5: Look for a Book Bingo flyer in your student's Tuesday packet! Extra copies will be available in the library or you can download a copy (K-2nd Form, 3rd-6th Form, Instructions) . Deadline for turning in the completed Bingo (any 5 spaces in a row) is November 5th.
  • Oct 22 - 26: Check out the hallways and school library...there will be dots everywhere! Focus this month is 'Make your mark..and see where it takes you!' We are celebrating the creativity, courage and collaboration of our students based off of the book 'The Dot' by Peter H. Reynolds. In collaboration with the Blast into Reading Committee, our librarian Sheena Keiser has lots of fun activities planned for the students during their library time this week.
  • Nov 9th: Book Bingo social, 8:25am in the library (for all students who participated in the Book Bingo challenge and completed a bingo)
  • Nov 13 - Jan 11: Look in your student's Tuesday packet for a Bookmark '5 to Try' Challenge Flyer and bookmark. Extra bookmarks are available in the school library or you can download a copy (K-2nd3rd-6thInstructions). Please note the bookmark document is double sided. Deadline for turning in the completed bookmark is January 11th.
  • Dec 10 - 14: PTSA Scholastic Book Fair in the school library. Unable to make it? Order online and your books will be shipped for free to the school. We need volunteers to make this a success! Please contact bookfairs@fairwoodptsa.org.
  • January - May: Kent School District Battle of the Books In the Fall our librarian will talk to the 4th-6th graders about the district sponsored Battle of the Books. Class groups are organized in January and usually parent volunteers host weekly lunch meetings to help the students prepare. In May the competition begins (Class, Grade, School, District). The Blast into Reading program helps by funding T-shirts for the group heading to the district finals.
  • March 5th: We will be hosting our 2nd annual Literacy Night...Reading Takes You Places! along with special author visit by Dana Sullivan. Volunteers needed to help with activity tables. 
  • Apr 15 - 19: PTSA Scholastic Book Fair in the school library. It is going to be a DINO-MITE time! Stomp, Chomp and Read is our theme for the Spring Book Fair. Unable to make it? Order online and your books will be shipped for free to the school. We need volunteers to make this a success! Please contact bookfairs@fairwoodptsa.org.
  • April:
    • First week of April we are spotlighting Silly Book Covers and encouraging students to create their own story based off of their favorite Silly Book Cover.
    • Our last reading challenge for the year begins! Book Bingo forms will be sent home in student's Tuesday packets the first week of April. Extra copies will be available in the library or you can download a copy (K-6th FormInstructions) . Deadline for turning in the completed Bingo (any 5 spaces in a row) is May 10th 
    • The last week of April we will be helping the school celebrate National Poetry Month with the students.
  • Summer Reading 2019: Kick-off will be an assembly with our local King County Fairwood library. The PTSA/Fairwood School library will be coordinating the Tower of Books Challenge!
